A 1-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool after going through a broken fence in Phoenix Wednesday afternoon.
Armondo Diaz, Jr., entered the backyard pool area of a home on the 8500 block of West Indianola Avenue through a broken fence, according to Phoenix police documents.
Police received a call around 4:20 p.m. that Armondo had been pulled out of the pool and officers arrived at the home in three minutes, according to a statement from Detective Bob Ragsdale, Phoenix police spokesman.
Firefighters were already at the home performing CPR on Armondo.
Armondo passed away after firefighters rushed him to St. Joseph's Hosptial.
There were eight people inside the home, including Armondo's mother, his four siblings, a male tenant and one of the children's friends, when Armondo got in the pool, according to Ragsdale.
Armondo's 10-year-old brother found him in the pool and his mother jumped in and pulled Armondo out, according to Ragsdale.
It was unclear how long Armondo was in the pool.
