A 4-year-old boy was taken to the hospital for observation Sunday evening after his 7-year-old brother pulled him from a backyard pool, the Goodyear Fire Department reported.
The younger boy was breathing and talking to emergency crews after his mother, a nurse, performed CPR and caused him to cough up water he had taken in, fire officials said.
Fire officials reported the 4-year-old wandered into the backyard shortly before 7:10 p.m. while at a family function in the 18100 block of West Canyon Lane, in the Estrella community. It was unclear how long he was in the water.
The boy will likely be kept overnight to watch for possible infection or side effects from pool chemicals, officials said.
