Aquatics center opens for season

May 10, 2008

The city opens its first pool of the year Saturday at Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center. The rest open later this month.

The Foothills aquatics center, on Union Hills Drive, is the city's newest and most luxurious facility with two slides, a lazy river, a lap pool, diving well, playground, leisure pool, shaded deck and concessions. Weekend hours this month are noon to 4 p.m.

Last season, 115,300 swimmers took advantage of the city's pools, a 30 percent increase from 2006, according to the city.

Another 7,448 swim lessons were given, a 35 percent jump from 2006.

Classes range from synchronized swimming to water polo. Instructors teach swimming to those from 6 months to adults.
