A 6-year-old boy drowned Thursday morning after he wandered f rom his back yard and tumbled into a canal.
The child, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at Desert Samaritan Medical Center where he was taken by helicopter.
The boy is the first drowning victim on the Salt River Reservation this year, Lt. Karl Auerbach said.
