A 2-year-old Surprise boy died Saturday after family members found him floating in their home swimming pool, police said.
Surprise Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Pool said a 911 call was made at 3:08 p.m. for a drowning in the 17800 block of Watson Lane.
According to Surprise police, the child was in the care of family members.
The child was out of the family's sight for about 20 minutes, when the child's grandfather found the boy floating in the backyard swimming pool, police said.
The boy had no pulse when he was pulled from the water, Pool said. Family members performed CPR before fire and police arrived around 3:15 p.m.
The boy was immediately transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.
It is unknown how the child got into the pool or how long he was in the water, police and fire officials said.
The incident is currently under investigation.
