Current Stories Index

July 5, 2001

A 2 -year-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday after being found in his family's backyard swimming pool.

Ethan Shirkey-Williams had been missing for 15 to 20 minutes when his grandfather found him and started CPR. When Glendale firefighters arrived, the boy was not breathing and had no pulse. Paramedics estimated that he had not been breathing for at least five minutes. He was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix.

The pool was fenced, but the boy apparently slipped into an unfenced portion through a door in the garage.
