Phoenix police are still investigating the weekend death of a toddler who drowned in a hot tub in Ahwatukee, the village's fourth drowning of the summer.
Ashley Dutrow, 3,died Saturday night while swimming with other children at a family barbeque, Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill said.
Her family was cooking out at about 7 p.m. near the complex pool at the San Simeon Condominiums on South Desert Foothills Parkway between Chandler Boulevard and Pecos Road, Hill said.
Several children swam back and forth between the pool and the hot tub but no one noticed the toddler had gotten into the hot tub until another child spotted her floating, Hill said.
The family called paramedics and the toddler was taken to a local hospital where she died, Hill said.
On Monday, police were continuing to investigate the death.
Ashley's drowning follows three others in recent months.
Sean Marrujo, 2, died Aug. 21 at a home near 32nd Street and Chandler Boulevard after fire officials said he likely crawled through a dog door and fell into his family's pool.
Alaeyah Jones, 3, drowned May 17 after slipping into an apartment pool on South 48th Street.
On June 30, 43-year-old Jason Briscoe was swimming by himself when he drowned at a home on East Windsong Drive.
So far this year, 23 people, including seven children, have drowned in the city, according to Phoenix Fire Department statistics.
