Drowning victim, 3, is ID'd

May 19, 2008

Police released the name of the 3-year-old Phoenix girl who drowned at an Ahwatukee Foothills apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

Adults and children were in the community pool at the complex in the 13000 block of South 48th Street when the girl, Alaeyah Jones, made her way into the pool just before 5 p.m.

Family members and friends were at the pool but her parents were not, said Phoenix Police Detective Cindy Scott.

Alaeyah was found a short time later floating in the pool.

Somebody tried to perform CPR and Alaeyah was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Scott said the girl lived in another part of Phoenix.
