Police have identified an elderly woman who drowned this week in a Chandler pool.
The step-grandson of Janet Karen Conkins, 94, found her floating in a Chandler pool fully clothed Wednesday morning and pulled her out, authorities said.
Conkins may have been in the pool for several hours at her home in the 2500 block of East Beechnut Court, near Chandler Heights and Gilbert roads, before she was found, said Battalion Chief Dan Couch, a Chandler Fire Department spokesman.
The woman was living in a one-bedroom house behind the home her grandchildren live in, said Detective David Ramer, a Chandler police spokesman.
Her grandson hadn't heard from her and went to check when he found her dead, Ramer said.
"It appears to be an accident but is still under investigation," Ramer said.
