A Gilbert mom who pleaded guilty to child abuse after the near drowning of her daughter left the child in vegetative state was sentenced to two years probation on Tuesday.
Amber Ferguson, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse and one count of marijuana possession on Aug. 12 in the Maricopa County Superior Court.
A third count of possession of drug paraphernalia was dropped.
The incident happened Feb. 22, 2007, when Anderson left her 9-month-old daughter, Katelynn, unattended in a bathtub.
The girl nearly drowned, according to authorities, and she was expected to remain in a permanent vegetative state. When Gilbert Police conducted an investigation, they found marijuana in the house.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office initially charged Ferguson in February 2008.
