A 2-year-old Glendale boy nearly drowned Sunday after falling into his family's backyard swimming pool.
FirefIghters said the boy, Jarrod Dorsey, was reMoved from the pool by his father. They said the boy didn't have a pulse when paramedics arrived at his home, in the 6700 block of West Georgia Avenue, but he later was reported in fair condition at a Phoenix hospital.
"Jarrod got into the pool by going through the back door and through an open pool gate," said Sandy Raynor, a spokeswoman for the Glendale Fire Department.
"Both parents were in the hoMe at the time of the incident and were alerted by the family dog scratching at the back door. Jarrod was underwater for an undetermined amount of time."
Raynor said the near-drowning marked the sixth water-related incident in Glendale this year, all near-drownings involving children younger than 5. The best prevention against drownings is constant adult supervision, she said.
