Glendale tot drowns in spa;
gate latch possibly to blame

Despite cooler weather, parents warned to stay alert.

A 2-year-old Glendale boy died Wednesday after being pulled from a spa at his grandparents home in the 13300 block of North 65th Drive, police said. Justin Jacob Moyes was pronounced dead at a Phoenix hospital.

Justin, who was found face-down in the spa, may have been in the water for as long as 45 minutes before he was discovered by his mother, Glendale firefighters said. He did not have a pulse when he was taken to the hospital. Fire officials said a gate that didn't latch properly may have allowed the child to enter a fenced pool area.

Fire officials also remind parents that gates, working or not, can't substitute for adult supervision.
