Man apparently drowns at Lake Pleasant

May 10, 2008

The body of a 26-year-old man was recovered from Lake Pleasant Saturday morning after he apparently drowned.

Maricopa County Sheriff's officials said the man had limited swimming experience but tried to swim across Cotton Cove.

About 15 yards off shore, the man started to struggle, said Lindsey Smith-Macklin, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office.

The man's girlfriend tried to help but was unsuccessful, she said.

Officials said the man, who was not identified, was pulled ashore and pronounced dead around 9 a.m.
