An 18-month-old child was listed in critical condition at Desert Samaritan Medical Center Thursday afternoon after he was found submerged in a kiddie pool, fire officials said.
In a follow up report by Mesa Fire Battalion Chief Gil Damiani, the Children's Safety Zone was informed that he was taken off of life support and died Friday morning.
The toddler, Michael Zaharis, was found in the 12-inch-deep pool by his brother about 5:20 p.m. in their yard at the 2300 block of East Kenwood Street, Mesa Fire Battalion Chief Gil Damiani said.
The toddlers mother, who was home at the time of the incident, started resusication while awaiting paramedics. He may have been in the water for about five minutes.
