A 2-year-old girl was hospitalized in life-threatening condition Wednesday afternoon after being pulled from a backyard pool at a home near 52nd Avenue and La Mirada Drive in Laveen.
The girl's parents were inside the home with five children, and the 2-year-old likely slipped outside when they turned their backs for a few minutes, said Deputy Doug Matteson of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
The girl was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
Authorities said there was no fence around the pool.
Detectives were still investigating the incident. It was unknown if there would be any charges against the girl's parents.
“At this time it appears to be a very tragic accident,” Matteson said.
