Man drowns at Lake Pleasant after water-skiing mishap Jane Larson The Arizona Republic Mar. 11, 2007 03:09 PM A 29-year-old man is presumed drowned at Lake Pleasant on Sunday after a water-skiing mishap.
It is believed to be the first drowning of 2007 at the popular northwest Valley recreation area.
The incident occurred about 10:40 a.m. when the man was water-skiing and dropped his shirt in the water, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lindsey Smith said. The man tried to retrieve the shirt and started struggling in the water.
A friend dived in to help the man, but he still slipped below the surface. His name was not released.
Sheriff's office divers were trying Sunday afternoon to determine the safety of the area before trying to recover the body, Smith said.
