CAVE CREEK – Investigators are trying to determine how a 45-year-old woman drowned in a complex hot tub.
Officers responded to the Villas at Union Hills apartments near Cave Creek Road and Union Hills Drive just before 1 a.m. after receiving a call about a possible drowning.
When police arrived at the scene they saw the victim’s 59-year-old boyfriend trying to pull the woman from a Jacuzzi-type spa.
Investigators say the victim and her boyfriend had been using the spa earlier in the evening before the man left to an apartment. When the victim did not go to the apartment, her boyfriend reportedly went to check on her and found her face down in the water.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she died.
Investigators tell 3TV there were indications that the victim and/or the boyfriend may have been consuming alcohol at some point before the drowning.
No immediate cause of death has been determined. Investigators have not found any obvious signs of trauma or injury. The investigation remains ongoing.
