2-year-old girl in hospital after near-drowning in Buckeye
A 2-year-old girl was seriously injured after she was pulled out of a canal in Buckeye on Saturday, officials said.
Deputies were called to an area near Baseline and South Palo Verde roads about 5:45 p.m. in response to a drowning, according to a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl’s family members were doing yard work and lost track of their daughter for a short time, officials said. The 2-year-old was found unresponsive in an irrigation-type canal.
The father pulled the girl from the canal and performed CPR until emergency responders arrived. Officials said she was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
