Phoenix child fighting for his life after pool incident; Mesa boy loses his life in drowning

A child is in extremely critical condition after being pulled out of an apartment complex’s pool Monday evening, the Phoenix Fire Department said. This isn’t the first incident of its kind in the Valley on Monday.

PEORIA, AZ (AZFamily) — A one-year-old boy is in the hospital after nearly drowning in a backyard pool in Peoria on Saturday afternoon.

The Peoria Police Department says the boy was pulled from an above-ground pool at a home on Monroe Street, near 95th and Peoria Avenues. He was initially rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. However, in an update on Sunday morning, officers said he is expected to survive.

Hypothermia can set in after someone is submerged in water as warm as the high 70s.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It happens several times every year, according to Sgt. Robert Marske, who works for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Marske investigated boating accidents and incidents for 16 years, and he says springtime can be dangerous on the water.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A spike in child drownings across the Valley has first responders on high alert. Over the weekend, a little girl drowned in a backyard pool in Glendale, and the week before, a 3-year-old drowned while visiting a friend’s house in Peoria.

While it’s technically still winter, the Valley is one of a few places in the country where people can still enjoy their pools. “You are going to see an uptick in pool activity in the February and the March months,” said Captain Todd Keller with Phoenix Fire

GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A young girl who was rushed to a hospital after being pulled from a backyard pool in Glendale on Sunday afternoon has died.

Around 5:40 p.m., Glendale police officers and fire crews were called to a home near Deer Valley Road and 75th Avenue for a child who was found in a pool. Glendale police say the 18-month-old girl was given medical aid and then taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
