PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A spike in child drownings across the Valley has first responders on high alert. Over the weekend, a little girl drowned in a backyard pool in Glendale, and the week before, a 3-year-old drowned while visiting a friend’s house in Peoria.

While it’s technically still winter, the Valley is one of a few places in the country where people can still enjoy their pools. “You are going to see an uptick in pool activity in the February and the March months,” said Captain Todd Keller with Phoenix Fire
