PHOENIX – A 4-year-old girl drowned Tuesday during a family party near Union Hills Drive and 44th Street in northeast Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, the adults in the family were unaware that the girl had left the house and gone to the pool area.

“It was a common scenario,” said deputy chief Shelly Jamison of the Phoenix Fire Department. “At some point inattention. We ask for supervison.”

As the guests were getting ready to leave the party, the girl was found in the pool, police said.

Family members were performing CPR on the girl when first responders arrived, said Sgt. Jonathan Howard of the Phoenix Police Department.”

I think this is ultimately going to go down as another preventable tragedy,” said Howard.
