PHOENIX – A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after a near-drowning in west Phoenix, according to fire officials.

The Phoenix Fire Department said the child was pulled from a swimming pool at a home near 71st Avenue and McDowell Road at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday. The boy was taken Phoenix Children’s Hospital in extremely critical condition.

Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes said the child’s mother told officers that she was inside cleaning when another one of her children alerted her to the toddler in the pool.

Today, we had a baby nearly drown in a bathtub.

The other three children were pulled from swimming pools in the past 12 days; four children, two boys and two girls.

And all of them were two years old or younger.

Kristi’s Kids is keeping track and sounding the alarm.

“We’ve had other seasons that have started earlier, but this is bad, not where we’ve had fatal incidents right from the get go,” said Drexel Heights Fire District spokesperson Tracy Koslowski. “That’s the difference I’m seeing this year.”

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -A toddler drowned on Tucson’s east side Saturday, according to city police.

It is the third water incident involving a child in only 10 days.

On Feb. 27, an 18-month-old boy drowned in the 10400 block of North Flintlock Trail. A homicide unit from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating that incident.

On Feb. 25, a 1-year-old nearly drowned in the 9000 block of Muleshoe Street.Capt.

Barrett Baker, a spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department, said the latest incident involved a 2-year-old girl. Baker said the child was found in a swimming pool at a home in the 8000 block of East Kenyon Drive.
