PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Drowning prevention advocates are warning that the number of child drownings in the Phoenix area is on pace to reach record or near-record levels.

“This trend will be a horrific year if it goes on the way that it has this last month,” said Lori Stauffer, vice president of the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona and works for Scottsdale Fire Department.

Toddler nearly drowns in East Valley pool

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A 2-year-old girl has been hospitalized after nearly drowning in a pool in Chandler, the city’s police and fire department confirmed Saturday.

Chandler fire says crews were called to the incident near Chandler Boulevard and Price Road and found the child conscious, breathing and alert. They say the child’s family had performed CPR on her after pulling her out of the pool before firefighters could get to the scene.

PHOENIX — A 4-year-old girl has died after being pulled from a pool near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road Thursday evening.

The Glendale Fire Department says around 7:30 p.m. Thursday police received a call of a 4-year-old girl who had fallen into a pool at a home in that area.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police say an 11-year-old girl remains in critical condition after an “extremely tragic accident” in a backyard pool on Sunday afternoon.

Detectives learned that the child was playing a volleyball game in the pool with others when someone noticed she was submerged underwater. A family member jumped in to help and found her hair was caught on a pool fixture underneath the water.
