A 2-year-old boy pulled from a backyard pool in Mesa has died, police confirmed Friday night.The boy was pronounced dead at Cardon Children’s Medical Center, said Diana Williams, a Mesa police spokeswoman.Williams said the drowning was accidental and that the boy’s grandmother, who was supposed to be watching him, “will not be charged at this time.”Earlier in the day, Forrest Smith, deputy chief of the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, described the incident as “a lapse in supervision.”

Last year, children drowning was up 400 percent in our state by April 2014.To help, Arizona Office Technologies is launching its second annual Big Print for Swim Safety K-12 poster design contest. The contest is open to all kids in K-12 classes and entries will be accepted through March 23.”I ask that every organization, every mom and dad, every family member and friends encourage the children around them to enter the Big Print for Swim Safety poster contest. It raises awareness about water safety and that saves lives,” said Becky Hulett, aquatics supervisor, city of Phoenix.

PEORIA, AZ – Rescue crews performed CPR on an 18-year-old man after a near-drowning at Lake Pleasant on Saturday afternoon, but Clayton Waggle was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to the Peoria Fire Department, firefighters were performing life-saving efforts on Waggle, who did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life jacket.

Rescue crews said Waggle was trying to cross the lake by walking across buoys when he fell into the water. The man’s brother pulled him out of the water.

PHOENIX – A 5-month-old baby girl was taken to a hospital after the child was left unattended in a bathtub.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the baby was crying when rescue crews arrived to an apartment complex near 23rd Avenue and Camelback Road.

The infant was taken in stable condition to a hospital. The Phoenix Police Department said the baby will remain in a hospital overnight as a precautionary measure.

They said detective will investigate the incident to check for any indications of a crime, which is a normal protocol.

TEMPE, AZ – A 2-year-old boy has died after being found at the bottom of an 11-foot murky pool at a house near Rural Road and Southern Avenue.

Officials said police were originally called to the home Monday after the boy’s family called to report him missing. Once police and firefighters arrived, they found the boy at the bottom of the pool. He was taken to a hospital in very critical condition.

It is not known how long the boy was in the pool for, but officials said the pool gate was open.

GLENDALE, AZ – Officials say a 5-year-old boy who was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday after being found in a backyard pool has died.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home near 61st Avenue and Greenway Road.

Glendale firefighters tell ABC15, the child was able to unlatch the pool gate to get access to the water.

A 3-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital Sunday evening in stable condition after he was found floating face down in a backyard pool in Goodyear, officials said.

The boy was awake and alert when firefighters arrived at about 5 p.m. at a home in the 10700 block of South Santa Fe Lane in the Estrella community, said Battalion Chief Russ Braden, a spokesman for the Goodyear Fire Department.

He was transported to Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear for further evaluation and treatment, Braden said.The boy was reportedly in the fenced pool area with family members who were cleaning up from the day’s activities when his 10-year-old stepbrother spotted him in the water and pulled him out, Braden said.

The boy’s father used the Heimlich maneuver, which caused him to cough up water, start breathing and begin crying, Braden said.

PHOENIX – A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after a near-drowning in west Phoenix, according to fire officials.

The Phoenix Fire Department said the child was pulled from a swimming pool at a home near 71st Avenue and McDowell Road at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday. The boy was taken Phoenix Children’s Hospital in extremely critical condition.

Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes said the child’s mother told officers that she was inside cleaning when another one of her children alerted her to the toddler in the pool.
