PHOENIX – The importance of watching children around water hit home Sunday for families across the Valley. Fire departments responded to at least four near-drowning or submersion calls involving young children.
Firefighters in Glendale responded to a home near Union Hills Drive and 75th Avenue after a report of a 2-year-old being found in a pool. Authorities said the child was out and breathing, classifying the incident as a submersion.
The child was taken to the hospital as a precaution.Phoenix firefighters responded after a 3-year-old boy was found at the bottom of a pool near Greenway and Tatum. The child was found unconscious but was able to be revived and was responding appropriately, officials said.
Gilbert Fire Rescue crews were called to near Recker and Ray roads Sunday afternoon after a 3-year-old was pulled from a community pool. The child’s father performed CPR and was breathing. Officials said the child was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Mesa firefighters were dispatched to a home near Dobson and Broadway after family called 911 when a 3-year-old suffered a near-drowning episode. The child was pulled out of the water before crews arrived, but was having some difficulty breathing. The child was taken to the hospital.
