MCSO: ROOSEVELT, Ariz. – Maricopa County officials have recovered the body of a man who drowned at Apache Lake early Sunday morning.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Rodolfo Ruiz, reportedly entered the water and was seen struggling as he swam out to a buoy.

Sheriff’s deputies began searching by boat around 3 a.m. Sunday. Divers were called and searched throughout the day, but his body was not recovered until Monday morning.

Ruiz’s sister-in-law reported that he was missing after a fight with his wife during the night.

His wife told deputies he was using drugs and had been drinking all day Saturday.
