On Monday, June 5, 2023, at approximately 6:36 PM, Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) received a report of a missing person in the water who was doing a float down in the Colorado River.

Update: On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at approximately 8:12 AM, Brian Vasquez was found deceased in the area of Cocopah Bend RV Park.

On Thursday, July 20, 2023 at approximately 8:28 PM, the Yuma Police Department responded to a report of a 4 year-old female juvenile who entered the river in the area of Gateway Park.

Upon arrival officers located the juvenile in the water under the 4th Avenue bridge unresponsive. Yuma Fire Department personnel entered the water and recovered the juvenile with their jet skis and provided life-saving measures. The female juvenile was transported by ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

On Tuesday, August 08, 2023, at approximately 8:14 PM, the Yuma Police Department responded to a report of a possible drowning at a residence in the southeast area of the City of Yuma.

Upon arrival, officers performed life-saving measures on a 2-year-old female juvenile until rescue arrived. The juvenile was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by the Yuma Fire Department and was later pronounced deceased.
